Forty Minutes Not Enough

Wedneday night welcomed Conexus Local Hockey Hero, Darwin Hazell to the ice to accept his award for his dedication to growing the game of hockey.

A terrific start to Wednesday’s match up may not have ended the way the Warriors had hoped, but the single point earned puts the squad into 7th place.  The Warriors started off strong, with an early goal from Chad Suer at 3:45. Suer would post the only goal of the period.

The first intermission had one lucky finalist take a shot for $25,000 from Cooperators. Although very close, the shot did not hit home;  but Quinton Howden's shot sure did. Howden capitalized on the power play early in the second making it a 2-0 game. Saskatoon would answer back with power play goal. Thomas Frazee with an assist coming from Captain Jason Bast, who managed to get the helper on every Warrior goal in the hockey game, made it a two goal Warrior lead.

Playing a fantastic first forty minutes, the last twenty showed just why Saskatoon is one of the East’s best. Patterson set the tone with a quick third period goal. Brandon Glover would allow a third goal in the final minutes of the third from Stephan Elliot to even it up.

Neither team would take it in regulation time; sending the Wednesday night fight of the East into over time. It would take only seconds for Patterson to put another home and steal the win. The Warriors fired 36 shots on Adam Morrison. Brandon Glover seen 26 shots come his way. Second star honours went to Jason Bast, who earned 3 points on the night.

Warriors have one day to recuperate before hosting the Giants Friday night. Vancouver overcame a 2-0 Pats lead to take a road game in the Queen City Wednesday night.   The Warriors will face Chilliwack Saturday night.
