IIHF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BEGINS SATURDAY

IIHF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BEGINS SATURDAY

The World Championships are set to begin Saturday May 8th with Team Canada taking on Italy in round robin play.  Two former Warriors will be joining the red and white in Germany.  Ryan Smyth and Brooks Laich will both be on the this year's roster.

Along with the two former Warriors, other players whose teams failed to qualify for subsequent post season games will look to recapture the gold medal that has eluded Team Canada the past two years.  Young guns Evander Kane, John Tavares,  and Tyler Myers will be surrounded by veteran leadership with the likes of Smyth and Laich.  Regina Pats Jordan Eberle will also be attending the championship as an alternate.

Team Canada will face Italy on Saturday, Latvia on Monday and Switzerland on Wednesday.  Games will continue throughout the following week with the Gold Medal game set for Sunday May, 23rd.

Team Canada has not took home gold since 2007, losing to Russia for the title in both 2008 & 2009.  Canada has took home the gold 24 times.  Head Coaches, Craig MacTavish, Peter DeBoer and Bily Moores will look to change the last two outcomes.

For all the scores and a full schedule visit www.hockeycanada.ca

Warriors Head Coach Steps Up

Warriors Head Coach Steps Up

Moose Jaw, SK--- The Warriors have been working hard over the past two weeks to raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society. October is Women’s Cancer Awareness Month and the Warriors have currently raised over $6000.00.

In the spirit of women’s cancer awareness month, each player has done their part by creating their own pink tee to be auctioned off. The Warriors organization is now ready to take the campaign one step further. Warriors Head Coach, Dave Hunchak has committed to shaving his head on ice after Friday night’s game; if the Moose Jaw community can raise another $2,500.00. Coach Hunchak’s son will also be shaving his head along side his father. Dave lost his own father to cancer and his mother-in-law is currently battling cancer. With a cause so close to his heart, Dave hopes the community can help make a difference and donate to such a worthy cause.

The Warriors know that approximately 1 in 4 Canadians will die from cancer. On average, 1,450 Canadians die of cancer every week. Today 62% of people diagnosed with cancer will survive. **

Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the Warriors game Friday night to show their support of Women’s Cancer Awareness Month. That same night, Warriors’ players will be donning pink laces and pink tape when they take on the Broncos to once again show their support of the Canadian Cancer Society.

Help do your part in the fight to end cancer and lead the way in the Warriors quest to raise a total of $8,500.00 for the Canadian Cancer Society.  If you would like to support Coach Hunchak and see his hair shaved Friday night, bring your donation down to the Warriors office or to Friday’s nights game. Fans can also contact the Warriors office at 694-5711. For easy online donation, visithttp://convio.cancer.ca/goto/mjwarriors.
