Wyton Looking Forward To Leadership Role

The Moose Jaw Warriors will be sporting a much younger line-up this season after having a roster filled with veterans during their run to the WHL Eastern Conference Final in 2011-12.  Many of the role players from last season are being asked to take on bigger roles this time around.

19-year-old forward Jordan Wyton says it's tough to believe he's one of the veterans on the team now, but because of that he's going to try and take on more of a leadership role, "I've only been here for two years, but I'm trying to be as supportive as the guys were when I was a young guy here.

"I'm an older guy in the room this year, so I've got to show the younger guys the ways of the league."  The team will have plenty of time over the next week to get the young players adapted to life in the Western Hockey League as they won't see game action again until next Friday when they head to Maple Creek to take on the Swift Current Broncos.

Wyton says the week of practice will be big for the team, "As a young team that's going to be great.  We're going to be able to get on the ice, get in shape, learn how not to cut corners, and I think we're going to have some very good team bonding over this next week."

The young players performed well in their rookie game, knocking off a much older Broncos line-up, 3-1, at Mosaic Place.  "It was very good to see that they could perform that well," said Wyton.

"This year our young guys are going to have to bring everything they have every night and enthusiasm from the young guys is going to be very important in our organization."

The Warriors are going to be practicing over the next week and doing some team bonding during the long weekend as they work towards the season opener coming up on September 21st against the Broncos at Mosaic Place.

Reminder to fans that season tickets will be available for pick up Wednesday, September 5th at 9am at the Warriors Office on the north side of Mosaic Place.  They will be available during regular business hours, 9am to 5pm, from the 5th to the 7th; on September 8th the office will be open 9am to 5pm, while on September 9th the office will be open 9am to 3pm.
