Weekend Preview

Coming up this weekend the Moose Jaw Warriors will venture to Alberta for a three-in-three weekend which will see them make stops in Calgary (Friday), Red Deer (Saturday), and Lethbridge (Sunday).

v. Calgary… Moose Jaw is 0-0-1-1 against the Hitmen this season; both games have been decided by one goal.  Calgary edged the Warriors 2-1 in overtime November 4th at Mosaic Place, November 7th the Hitmen clipped the tribe 2-1 at the Scotiabank Saddledome.  The teams will close out their regular season series January 9th in Moose Jaw.

Carter Hansen and Andrew Johnson lead the Warriors with one goal each against the Hitmen; Travis Brown, Morgan Rielly, and Torrin White have one assist each; Justin Paulic has a 1.41gaa and .932sv%.  Brendan Hurley, Brooks Macek, and Jaynen Rissling lead the Hitmen with one goal each against the Warriors; five players have recorded one assist; Chris Driedger has a 0.92gaa and .966sv%; Mack Shields has a 0.96gaa and .962sv%.

v. Red Deer… This will be the final meeting of the season between the Warriors and Rebels; Moose Jaw has a 0-1-0-2 record.  All three games have been decided by one goal, two were decided in a shootout and one ended in regulation.

Justin Kirsch leads the Warriors with two goals against the Rebels; Sam Fioretti has a goal and two points; Travis Brown and Andrew Johnson have one goal each; six players have recorded one assist; Daniel Wapple is 0-1-0-1 with a 1.44gaa and .952sv%; Justin Paulic is 0-0-0-1 with a 2.77gaa and .907sv%.  Tyson Ness leads the Rebels with two goals and four points against the Warriors; Mathew Dumba has two goals; Matt Bellerive has one goal; Patrik Bartosak is 3-0 with a 1.58gaa and .956sv%.

v. Lethbridge… Moose Jaw is 1-1-1 against the Hurricanes this season.  The Warriors beat Lethbridge 3-2 October 24th at home; they lost 4-1 November 12th at Mosaic Place; Lethbridge edged the Warriors 4-3 in overtime October 20th.

Travis Brown’s four assists leads the Warriors against Lethbridge; Tanner Eberle has a goal and three points; Justin Kirsch has two goals; Morgan Rielly has a goal and two points; Sam Fioretti and Bryson Gore have one goal each; Justin Paulic has a 3.26gaa and .894sv%.  Jay Merkley leads the Hurricanes with three goals and four points against the Warriors; Brady Ramsay has a goal and three points; Lenny Hackman has three assists; Sam Mckechnie has two goals; Ty Rimmer has a 2.29gaa and .939sv%.

Canada To Play For Bronze… Moose Jaw Warrior Morgan Rielly and team Canada lost 5-1 to the United States Thursday morning, pushing them to Saturday’s bronze medal game at the 2013 IIHF World Junior Championships in Russia.  Canada went 4-0 during the round robin, but fell short of appearing in the gold medal game, Canada hasn’t won gold in four years. 

World Under 17 Hockey Challenge… Moose Jaw Warriors Brayden Point, Miles Warkentine, and Josh Uhrich are currently in Quebec for the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge.  Point had a goal and two points for Pacific in a 4-3 overtime win over Uhrich, Warkentine, and Team West in the final game of the preliminary round.  West battles Slovakia Thursday in the 9th place game while Pacific battles Ontario in the 5th place game.

Mac’s Tournament… Warriors prospect Brandon Del Grosso had a goal and two points for the Vancouver Northwest Giants in the final of the Mac’s AAA Tournament in a 3-2 win over the Carolina Jr. Hurricanes.  Other Moose Jaw prospects who took part in the event are; Ben Duperreault (Moose Jaw Generals), Dallas Valentine and Jaden Sveinson (Leduc Oil Kings), and Logan Hermus (Red Deer Optimist Chiefs).
