Justin Kirsch had three assists Friday night as the Moose Jaw Warriors opened a 3-in-3 weekend with a tight 3-2 win over the Raiders in Prince Albert.
The Warriors came out of the gates slow and the Raiders capitalized, Mark McNeill made it 1-0 Prince Albert at 2:56, and then at 15:39 Dakota Conroy made it 2-0 with a 5-on-3 power play goal.
Moose Jaw used their power play in the second period to get back into the game; 16 year old Brayden Point scored his fifth of the year at 5:15, and then followed that up with another power play goal at 14:58 which tied the game at two.
The teams exchanged opportunities in the third, at 13:11 the Warriors Morgan Rielly and Justin Kirsch worked the puck from below the goal line to in front of the net, on a scramble Sam Fioretti potted his team leading 12th of the year to give the tribe their first lead of the game.
As the clocked ticked down the Raiders pressed for the equalizer, their best opportunity came in the final minute when Warriors centre Jordan Wyton took a closing hand of the puck penalty. Prince Albert pulled their goalie for a 6-on-4 advantage, Moose Jaw held their ground and fought off the Raiders and came away with the 3-2 win.
Justin Kirsch finished the game with three assists; Point had two goals; Sam Fioretti had a goal and two assists; Morgan Rielly had two assists; Justin Paulic made 34 saves for the win; Moose Jaw was 2-for-3 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.
