Four second period goals lifted the Moose Jaw Warriors to a one-sided 7-1 win Friday night in Brandon in the first game of a weekend home-and-home series against the Wheat Kings.
Carter Hansen opened the scoring at 6:10 of the first period when he beat Brandon goalie Curtis Honey on a rebound on top of the crease.
That scored held up until 12:58 of the second period; with the Tribe on the power play Morgan Rielly made a beautiful pass from the blueline down to Brayden Point at the side of the Wheat King net, Point re-directed the puck past the goal line to make it 2-0.
At 14:15 Travis Brown scored on the man advantage make it 3-0, then 15 seconds later Bryson Gore made it 4-0 with his first goal of the exhibition season. Playing 4-on-4 later in the frame, Brown jumped onto the ice on a line change and let a huge slap shot go from the point that went top shelf for his second of the period making it 5-0 at 16:40. On the power play at 17:57, Wheat Kings defencemen Eric Roy beat Warriors goalie Spencer Tremblay with a shot along the ice, making it a 5-1 game heading into the third.
Warriors sophomore forward Torrin White made it 6-1 at 12:49 of the third, rookie Josh Uhrich finished off the scoring at 18:09 of the third, and the Tribe skated to a lopsided 7-1 win. Andrew Johnson finished with three assists, Sam Fioretti had two helpers, and White had a goal and two points.
Moose Jaw outshot Brandon 36-23; Spencer Tremblay played the entire game, making 22 saves in his first action of the pre-season. The Warriors were 2-for-11 on the power play and 5-for-6 on the penalty kill.
The two teams have a rematch Saturday night at Mosaic Place, which will be their final game of the pre-season. Catch all the action with James Gallo, Derek Kletzel, and Marc Smith on Country 100 starting with the Pre-Game Show at 6:55pm.
