Michael St. Croix had a hat trick Friday leading the Edmonton Oil Kings to a 5-1 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors.
Edmonton opened the scoring at 3:43 with a goal from Curtis Lazar, the tribe answered back with a goal from Brayden Point at 8:44. Point created a neutral zone turnover then came inside the Edmonton line, danced around one defender then found the back of the net for his fourth of the year.
Four minutes later with the Oil Kings on the power play St. Croix scored to make it 2-1, and then with less than three minutes left in the frame Travis Ewanyk made it 3-1.
The middle frame saw the Warriors struggle; they were outshot 16-4 and fell behind 5-0 after St. Croix scored two more goals. Warriors starter Daniel Wapple was pulled after the second, making 28 saves on 33 shots.
The third period saw the Warriors outshoot the Oil Kings 14-2 but the pressure didn’t result in goals as their record fell to 5-5-0-1 with the 5-1 loss.
Moose Jaw will try to rebound Saturday night with a stop in Lethbridge, catch the Warriors and Hurricanes on Country 100 starting with the PreGame Show at 6:40pm with James Gallo.
