Moose Jaw Warriors Sam Fioretti and Morgan Rielly will represent the Western Hockey League next month during the annual Subway Super Series against Russia.
“We’re thrilled and proud to hear that Sam and Morgan have been chosen to be a part of Team WHL for the Subway Super Series,” said Warriors General Manager Alan Millar. “Both players are great representatives of the Warriors, the city of Moose Jaw, and major junior hockey. This is a great opportunity for them to showcase their skills to the rest of the WHL and to Hockey Canada.”
Rielly, who was drafted fifth overall by Toronto at the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, will be playing in his first Super Series and will take part in both games, November 14th in Vancouver and 15th in Victoria. Last year Morgan was selected to be on team WHL but due to an injury was unable to take part. In 13 games this season Rielly has 12 assists and is second in team scoring with 16 points.
Sam Fioretti will be playing in his first Subway Super Series; he will suit up in the November 15th game in Victoria. Fioretti gotten off to a strong start to the regular season, he currently leads the team with 11 goals and 19 points.
The Subway Super Series is used by Hockey Canada to evaluate potential players for the upcoming World Junior Hockey Championships; the top players from across the Canadian Hockey League will battle Russia in a six game series. It opens in the QMJHL with games in Blainville-Boisbriand and Val d’Or November 5th and 7th, from there it heads to Ontario for games in Guelph and Sarnia November 8th and 12th, it concludes with games in Vancouver and Victoria November 14th and 15th.
