FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Monday, July 16th, 2012
Moose Jaw, SK—The Moose Jaw Warriors and Conexus are proud to announce the 2012 Warriors and Legends Hall of Fame Inductees as Jerome Bechard and Donovan Nunweiler. The induction banquet is set for Friday August 17th with the golf tournament on Saturday August 18th to wrap up the Alumni weekend presented by Conexus.
Jerome Bechard spent five seasons as a Warrior from 1985‐1990. In that time he played in 300 games notching 106 goals and 147 assists for 253 points during his Warriors career. Jerome went on to an extensive hockey career in several leagues including the AHL and CHL. After playing in the minor leagues for 13 years, Jerome turned to coaching where he enjoyed immediate success, winning the SPHL Championship (The President’s Cup) with the Columbus Cottonmouths in the 2004–05 Southern Professional Hockey League season - his first year as head coach. Bechard has made the Columbus area his home where he resides with his wife of 17 years Rhonda, and their two daughters Alex (15) and Kylie (11).
Donovan Nunweiler a two year Warrior veteran and goalie; put on the red and black from 1996 - 1998. Starting out as a backup to Jason McLeans, he earned his way in to playing 58 games that first season with the Warriors. Donovan returned to Moose Jaw the following year as an over-age player. Donovan attended Acadia University for four years, playing hockey for only the first two years so that he could focus on his studies. He was accepted to the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Alberta and completed his MD. Donovan now has his own medical clinic in Medicine Hat where he resides with his wife and three children.
This year’s builder inductee is Rose Mary Hartney, long time Moose Jaw Warriors’ Education Advisor. For over 38 years at Vanier Collegiate, Rose Mary Hartney has been teacher, counsellor, and Education Advisor to countless Moose Jaw Warriors players. Ms. Hartney’s commitment to her students is reflected in the countless study halls, tutoring classes, and tireless hours to maximize the academic potential of all the WHL players while attending high school at Vanier Collegiate in Moose Jaw.
